I see a paragraph in the Telegraph stating that the folks of the north side have a nuisance as well as the south side, and I am led to wonder which can bray the loudest, the south side donkey or the north side ones. Yes, we repeat, their meetings are carried on in a disorderly manner. They are also a disgrace to the town. I am a woman getting along toward a hundred years old and I never saw or heard of such antics before. They are a lot of old starved out sandhill grangers. They have brought their dirty old tents and regardless of tax payers' rights have prepared to stay. They disturb the peace with their yelling. The Lord isn't deaf, but he soon will be at that rate. There are sick people within two and four blocks that are nearly set crazy by the racket. Some of the tent goers say that it doesn't disturb them. But those very persons can stay up half the night, and sleep until noon the next day if they choose, while others are obliged to rise early and attend to their daily duties. Some have been obliged to stay home days to catch up with their sleep. I was told that the reason why that petition from the ladies didn't pass was because they suspected that it was a Catholic's doings. Now, please don't lay this to the poor downtrodden Romans, for I don't belong to that church, though I wish I did, as they do not slander their widows: and that is the pleasantest occupation the protestants have-seemingly. I am really proud of our city council that will favor such proceedings. Now, south side folks, if you will tie a weight to your donkey's tail he won't bray, but I doubt if the north side nuisance can be so easily got rid of. But never mind, neighbors, we will try and stand it and pray the Lord to make our punishment as short as possible; and if there is any more trash in the surrounding country send them in and we will put them up and when they have proved a pest long enough we will send them on their way rejoicing.
