IMPROVEMENTS IN STILLWATER.

Since April last, One Hundred and five houses have been built within the limits of Stillwater. That is to say, this number of dwelling houses have been built, and are now occupied by families. Were we to include other buildings, such as stables, wood-houses, &c., the number would be greatly augmented. These One Hundred and five dwelling houses cost sums ranging from $300 to $6,000. We suppose that, at the least, $100,000 have been expended here within the year past for dwelling houses alone—all this, too, when the water was low and lumber high.

How much has been expended for other buildings, we have no reliable data at hand to determine.

We hear of preparations on all sides for building next summer. Lumber will be plenty, then,—good, seasoned lumber, and as soon as navigation shall open, other material will be plenty, also. We do hope some one will settle here and make brick for us; for, during the past season, we have had to import them from other places at a ruinous price. A good brick maker could make money with ordinary management and industry.

We have but little doubt that from two to three hundred houses will go up here next summer; and if they should, there is as little doubt that they will be filled to overflowing. The future career of Stillwater is destined to be onward and upward. Stillwater intends to displace the gristle in St. Paul's nose, if possible.
