Reiterating the need of national advertising for Pensacola and West Florida, the need of more perfect coordination among the constructive forces of Pensacola toward that end, brief discussion of a membership campaign for the near future and marked by instructive talks by invited guests, the second membership meeting and dinner of the Junior Chamber of Commerce was held at the San Carlos hotel last night.
Fifty members of the organization attended.
Recent activities, including the Junior Chamber of Commerce industrial show and entertainment of the University of Florida football team, were reviewed by the chairmen of the respective committees.
Outlines "Y" Plans.
Outlining the contemplated work of the Y. M. C. A. and explaining the "300 in four days" campaign to be inaugurated by the local "Y" beginning Dec. 5, H. R. Sharpless, representing the Y. M. C. A., urged the Junior Chamber of Commerce to assist in putting over the membership drive. He stressed the value of the Y. M. C. A. in developing athletes for future contests, the force that it carries among the people of Pensacola and urged the individuals of the junior commercial body to become members.
Dr. Clarence Hutchinson, president of the Country club, spoke of the Country club as an organization.
"While the Country club is generally not considered among the list of organizations for furthering Pensacola's progress," Dr. Hutchinson said, "yet it is connected directly connected with the progress of this city in many ways."
He emphasized the pulling power of adequate golf links in attracting visitors here, and stated that there is now a movement under way to increase the local course from nine to 18 holes.
Says Vision Needed.
"Vision," said Dr. Hutchinson, "is needed in Pensacola more than anything else, in my opinion; vision of the advantages, vision of the natural resources and a far-seeing vision of what can be really accomplished with proper effort and energy."
Both J. B. Morrow, industrial commissioner, and J. V. Price, secretary of the senior Chamber of Commerce, also spoke briefly in review of the work of the junior body.
O'Brien Motta rendered three violin selections, two of them composed by himself—"Reveries" and "Meditation"—which were warmly applauded by his appreciative audience. He was accompanied at the piano by his sister.
