Full Text
From the Boston Messenger.
It was truly unfortunate for the campaign to Canada, that the terrible cold Saturday happened just as the blanket committee were deliberating on his Excellency's special message. For on Monday following, upon further inquiry into the subject, it was found that every family, instead of having a spare blanket for patriotism—an extra one for comfort would be very acceptable.
They have no objection to "pledge their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honour"—but cannot part with their blankets! Under these discouraging circumstances, we suspect the committee intend to postpone their report till dog-days, when old Massachusetts can more conveniently "furnish its quota."—In the mean time, recommend the adoption of the lives and fortunes resolutions, as the cheapest substitute for the blankets.
