JOBLESS BENEFITS TO BE PAID OUT JULY 22
Benefit payments to workers covered by the Montana unemployment compensation act will be made beginning July 22, according to Barclay Craighead, chairman of the state commission. Claims may be filed on and after July 1, but the law provides that applicants for benefit payments must be out of work two weeks and then wait one compensable week before they can receive their first week's check, he added.
The commission must determine at the end of the compensable week if applicants have secured steady employment, and if they have earned more than $5 at odd jobs. Persons in work covered by the compensation law must have earned 30 times their weekly benefit payments in the first four quarters of the last five calendar quarters prior to filing claims.
Benefit payments will be 4 per cent of the amount a worker earned in the highest wage quarter of the first four quarters. It has estimated that weekly benefit payments will be approximately half of the amount the worker earned each week while he was employed.
All workers will be required to be registered with the state employment service, and must be available for work and able to work. Claims for benefits must be filed at local employment offices.
