An Inquiry.

To the Editor of the Gazette:

There are no doubt many citizens of Fort Worth who would like to know the reason for all this furor about enforcing what is known as the "Sunday Law."

Have we not had such a law before? If so, why has it not been enforced? Why all this hue and cry just now? Has our Mayor just discovered that there is such a law and that it is being violated? Was he afraid to cut his dash early in his official career because it might be forgotten before the next city election? Certainly it could not be that. Although our Mayor can boast of having fought under more different colors than most men, for he is accused of having been a Democrat, Republican, Greenbacker, Anti-Monopolist, Knight of Labor, Dark Lanternite, Anti-Prohibitionist and Prohibitionist in a comparatively short time; still, no one would think that he would make all this noise just to bring himself into notice and pave the way for a re-election. Then "what has come over the spirit of his dreams?" If it is a crime to sell a cigar or a glass of soda water now, was it not as great a crime before, and why did the Mayor let his morality lie dormant for more than a year after he was elected?
