I Walk Alone

Dull fog. Mist so grey and bleak.
Cold rain against my face;
I walk and walk alone.
Dim roofs slide grimly by
Mentally I etch the sky,
The factories, Skyscrapers,
Tenements and family wash,
People rushing, vehicles tearing,
All at a terrific pace.
I linger thoughtfully.

Wayside
homes,
Deep forests, red logs, homespun,
Kitchen kettles, winter's snow,
The silence and peace of the
country.

Screech of brakes.
A deafening
roar

Lit lamp-posts moist as I am.
I slip along the avenue...
And walk and walk alone.
