HOME BEING INVESTIGATED

Fully Hundred Men Participated in Raid and Wounded Men Were Outpost Guards.

(By Associated Press)

LOS ANGELES, April 24.—While county officials are shaping a plan for an exhaustive investigation into the raid by masked men at Inglewood, a suburb of this city, Sunday morning, in which three peace officers participating in the raid were shot, one dying shortly afterward, Leonard Ruegg, a deputy sheriff, one of the raiders was passing through a critical stage at Inglewood hospital. M. B. Mosher, of Inglewood is dead, and his son Walter, a deputy constable, was slightly wounded. The two Moshers and Ruegg were outpost guards of upwards of 100 men who raided, in masks, the residence at Inglewood.

Frank Worner, night marshal of Inglewood, was summoned by a telephone message reporting a big hold up. He was stopped and told by the trio, to throw up his hands, with threats of death. After exhibiting his official badge he opened fire killing the constable and wounding the deputies.

Further development was the statement by the leader of a negro colony of 45,000 persons here that members of his race had designated grounds for defense, and were arming to prevent mob aggression. The spokesman said the negroes feared the next move of the masked raiders might be directed against them.

The residence of Mathias and Fidel Elouyen was the scene and the brothers were kidnapped after the former's wife was treated roughly, and the two daughters subjected to indignities. The ostensible purpose of the raid was to obtain information against the Elouyen family for the alleged illicit sale of liquors.

The district attorney announced that William S. Cohurn was grand goblin of the Ku Klux Klan and W. G. Price king kleagle, will be summoned to testify at the inquest of the body of Mosher Tuesday morning. The district attorney said that apparently the shooting of the three men by the marshal was justified. The younger Mosher, at the hospital exonerated the marshal.

The decision to call Cohurn is based on his activities on the night of the raid when he appeared on the scene within half an hour after the shooting of the Moshers.
