The dy is kast! All is ore. Ef Freedom shreckt wen Kosciusko fell, she must hev sqwalled las Toosday nite, ez she beheld the innanimait corps of the Dimecratic party, which fell, crushing litul Mak, and the hopes uv sum hundreds uv thousands uv good Dimecrats who spected to be perswaded by their friends in2 accepting the various officis under the Guvernment.
I am a lost and ruined man. My people are uv Dimecratic stripe. They hev faith in me—they bleeve wat I tell em. I te'd em Mick Lellun wuz certain uv the cleckshun, and that I hed ded wood on the disposal uv the offisis in that seckshun. It immejitly become a ezy matter to borrow munny. It wuz deliteful—wood o wood that it cood hev been perpetooal! Bro. Savij lent me $50, with the request that I wood speke a good word fer him fer a ferrin mishun. I assoomied a virchus look and replide that I ncver sold my inflooenis, but aliez had an admirashen fer his massive intelleck and many virtews.— Bro. Guttle lent me munny, wantin this, and Bro. Sludge, wantin that; in breef, every indivijule uv em who hed a forehed an inch high, spected sunthin.
The returns cum in. Ohio: Linkun!
"Good! 'Ray!" shouts I with grate presence uv mind.
"Why good?" anxiously asks the expectants.
"Becoz, to carry Ohio, the abolishunists must hev brot votes from Noo York, which will give us that State shoor."
Noo York: Linkun!
"Good Lord!" ansers I, promptly; "the Noo York abolishunists hey voted in Ohigho, and hev gone back in time 2 vote agin. But wate for Pencilvany."
Pencilvany: Linkun!
"My frens, there wuz frawd. Massy-chewsits sojers, at least 40,000, must hey votid there. Injeany will do, howevir."
Injeany: Linkun.
"Nut less than 40,000 Massychewsits sol-jers hev votid there. Illynoi:e is safe, thoe."
Illynoise: Linkun!
"40,000 Massychew—"
"Give me mi munny!" roared Savij, and the saim remark with varinshuns wuz maid by Guttle, Sludge, and the baluntz uv em.
"Jently, my frens," said I, backing out uv the door; "we hev been defetid, but the grate prinsipple that a white man is better than a niggur, for which tha hev so long fot, still livs. Let us sink all miner konsiderashuns and—"
The miner kinsiderashuns I referred 2 wuz, however, uppermost in their minds, fer tha awl went fer me, yellin like Cuscaroorious Iniins. "Give me mi munny!" whareupon I retreeted 2 the meetin howse, lockin miself in. Tha sirroundid it, swarin tha'd starv me out.
When an innosent boy I red a harroin tale uv a Rooshun muther who wus persewed by frantick wolyz, and who saived her oan lyfe by dropin her children 2 em, 1 by 1. Mv privit barril uv whisky wuz in mi stuuy—I wuz saved! I histid it out uv a winder, and kamly awaytid the rezultz. Tha flockt around it; tha tuk turns at the bung hole, and in wun short our tha wuz stretched helpliss on the plane, ded drunk. Ther an thare I rezined my charge, and borroein such munny and cloze as tha hed abowt em, to maik up arrears uv salary and sich, bid adoo 2 em forevir. I shel go to Noo Gersy.
