Murder.—The Sandusky papers give an account of the murder of a man named Charles Betts. The Sanduskian says: He was a man aged about 61 years, and one of the most harmless, inoffensive and well disposed men in our county, but was supposed by many to have been partially deranged. He was a single man, and retired, with no relations near this section, except a person calling himself Isaac C. Betts. This brother Isaac is represented as a dissipated fellow, and was not on good terms with his inoffensive brother. He has been frequently heard to say, 'when the old man died he should own the farm.' Charles Betts was not seen at his house from the 1st of February until his body was found on the 7th, in his barn some distance from the house, under the east side of the threshing floor covered with straw. A coroner's inquest was called by coroner Wade; (from whom we learn these facts) and the verdict of the jury was, that Charles Betts came to his death by means of five blows inflicted with an instrument corresponding to a post axe, by some person of whom there was not sufficient evidence to name in the verdict. It was supposed that he was murdered by Isaac Betts, who is now in custody while eating at his home, as several beans were found in his mouth, and was conveyed to the barn and secreted.
