Full Text

The Winter's Night.

Now in-door rustics 'mong themselves
Converse of charms and fairy elves,
Of Witch, who magic mischief reeks,
Or nightly ghost, who justice seeks.
In brittle chains the streams are bound.
With new-fall'n snow the hills are crown'd:
The trees, where full-plum'd warblers sung
Are now with icy fringes hung.
The azure firmament quite clear,
The fairer moon and stars appear,
Till darksome clouds their lights o'ercast.
While bleak the North wind rises fast.
The needy trav'ler on the road,
Now joys to find his night's abode,
Whereto he makes thro' drifting snows,
For shelter, warmth, and wished repose.
