Full Text

March 14. Senate,--This house was much occupied to-day on the general Gambling bill; the chief alteration in which is to increase the number of licenses from 8 to 16, at the old price of $7,500 each, which, if it does not decrease the vice, will, if the 16 licenses are sold, very much increase the revenue. It has been ably suggested that the legislature would do well to farm out the gambling licenses at auction, and we believe that this plan, by forming a monopoly, would much add to the wealth of the State Treasury.--Louisiana Advertiser.
