Santa's Sleigh Is Best Pay

Wayne State University students are finding that wearing whiskers is the best way to earn money during the Christmas season.

A company has hired 65 students to represent Santa Claus on a rental basis. Santa will visit a family for a fee of $2.50. Before his visit, he checks with parents on such things as dolls and sleds.

He also gets a behavior report on each child in the family. In addition to his regular calls, Santa is available to preside at Christmas parties.

With the exception of these Santas, few job offers have been received by Wayne State's placement service, which in past years has had a backlog of requests for holiday workers.

"There is still a recession so far as we are concerned," said James W. Hill, counselor at the placement service. "Jobs are almost non existent."
