VERDICT AGAINST COUNTY
Secaucus Farmer Gets $500 for
Injuries Received by Fall

A verdict of $500 was returned in the
Supreme Court late yesterday afternoon
in the $10,000 damage suit of Robert B.
Butterworth, of Secaucus, against the
Boards of Freeholders of Hudson and
Bergen Counties for injuries sustained by
the plaintiff on the Hackensack plank
road bridge over the Hackensack on October
11, 1899.
A number of witnesses testified that
Butterworth's foot caught in a hole in
the planking of the bridge, and as a result
five small bones of his foot and two
of his ankle were broken. He will be
a cripple for life.
