Full Text

The author of Waverly, Guy Mannering, &c. (late English novels of a historical character) it is said, has received as his moiety of the profits arising from the sale of his works, one hundred and four thousand dollars! It must be confessed, that literary property is not without its value in England. We do not believe, although this is the most reading country in the world, that any author has, in the United States, ever realized a fourth part of the sum by his literary labors, unless in the composition of school dictionaries or spelling books.
