Tugboat Sinks in the East River at New York.

New York, April 3.—Five men were drowned when the tugboat Thomas F. O'Brien, towing three scows, loaded with bricks and driving against the wind, became entangled with the scows and sank in East river.

The crew of a passing tug heard the cries of the drowning sailors and rushed to their aid, but was able to rescue only the captain and two of the crew of the O'Brien.

The tug sank so quickly that by the time the rescuing tug arrived nothing of her could be seen but the top of her mast.
