School Marchers

Richmond, Va.—Some 1,500 Negroes marched on the state capitol yesterday and approved a resolution asking the general assembly to repeal the state's freedom-of-choice school legislation and the state pupil placement act.

The Negroes, led by the Rev. Martin Luther King, also asked the legislature to give Gov. J. Lindsay Almond Jr. emergency authority to reopen Prince Edward County's public schools.

The 17-block march followed a two-hour 'pilgrimage of prayer' attended by some 2,500 Negroes and a scattering of whites.
