At the requisition of M. Chaptal, the French Government has bestowed the bust of Hippocrates, in bronze, on the School of Medicine Montpelier. The celebrity which this school has for many ages preserved in that useful science gives it a just title to the possession of this bust. It was received with transport; and the ceremony of its inauguration was performed with splendour, the 4th Messidor. The hall was decorated with ornaments suitable to the occasion; labels, hung on both sides, presented maxims elected from the works of "The Father of Medicine." In the centre the bust appeared on a beautiful pedestal, and, on entering the door, the following passage from Anacharsis met the eye: "In the opinion of the wise, the names of the greatest conquerors sink before that of Hippocrates."
