Pageant Will Attract Thousands Tourists.

Warning is given this city by the Apostle Islands Indian Pageant Corporation to prepare to care for at least double the automobile tourist travel of any previous year. This warning has been sent to the commercial and civic organizations on all the main highways in Wisconsin, for the reason that estimates from the railroads, tour bureaus, and from the inquiries received from every state in the union indicate that more than half a million tourists will attend the Indian Pageant at the Apostle Islands between the 1st and 21st of next August.

The Indian Pageant at the Apostle Islands is at this time the widest advertised tourist attraction in America. It bids fair in its first year to rival the Mardi Gras. Frontier Days, and other similar entertainments. It is the first big definite tourist attraction the Middle West, and as such, will bring more millions of dollars into Wisconsin in one summer than have heretofore been expended in any two or three years.

Backed by the State Historical Society, the Land O' Lakes Association, seven railroads and scores of newspapers, the pageant is conducting its first annual twenty-one day event in three periods, showing the early life of the Indians of Lake Superior and of the first missionaries and traders of Northern Wisconsin. It is being staged in a vast natural amphitheatre that will care for 50,000 persons at one time.

The scenic attractions on all of the main State Highways are being featured in magazine and tourist book advertising issued by the corporation. The pageant organization is made up of leading citizens of Northwestern Wisconsin of which Senator C. H. Werden is the president.

Pilgrimages to the pageant are being made from many of the larger cities, while Boy Scout organizations of more than fifty cities will camp near the Indian Pageant Park to study the ways and customs of the 2000 Indians, who will participate in the pageant.
