Full Text

There was a good deal of complaint at first over the selection of New York as the burial place for General Grant, but the country has gradually settled down to the conclusion that the members of his family have the best right to a selection of the place. Every large city is now moved with a desire to erect a monument to General Grant, but it is reasonable to assume that the rich metropolis, which has secured the honor of possessing and guarding the mortal remains of the great soldier, will endeavor to surpass all other cities in doing honor to his memory in visible outward form, and will erect over his tomb a monument which shall be at once worthy the subject and of the largest and wealthiest city in America.
