Letter from Leghorn, May 17.

WE hear by the Capt. of an English Ship arriv'd here from Barcelona, that they talk'd there of the State of Affairs between Spain and Great-Britain, as if they were of such a Nature as not to be settled by NEGOCIATION; and that they were confirm'd in this Idea, by an Order which the Catholick King had sent to that Court, to have a Number of Transports, necessary for the transporting 8000 Men to Malaga. Notwithstanding which, the A-la-main that arrived Yesterday from Paris says, the Marques de la Mina, the Spanish Embassador there, gave a grand Entertainment, the 1st Inst. N. S. to his Excellency the Earl of Waldegrave, from whence the Parisians conjecture, that all Disputes between us and the Spaniards were adjusted. We heartily wish they were, to the Satisfaction of our plunder'd Merchants, the future Safety of our Trade in the West-Indies, and the Honour of the British Nation.

Rumors from Barcelona via English ship captain indicate affairs between Spain and Great Britain unlikely to settle by negotiation, confirmed by Catholic King's order for transports to move 8000 men to Malaga.
