Marathon Fund Workers Praised At Red Cross Directors' Meeting Here

Rev. Ralph Rogers, chairman of Monroe County Red Cross Chapter and Dave King, fund chairman, praised Marathon campaign workers this week for raising $1,315 in this year's drive - more than $100 more than the area's $1,200 goal.

Chapter board of directors, meeting Wednesday for its quarterly session, also heard reports of Red Cross activities during the last three months.

Mrs. Don Fox, chairman for the Marathon Red Cross membership and fund campaign, reported the Marathon's Lions Club and Key Colony's staff "were 100 per cent" in membership and contributions.

The 30 or 40 Marathon fund workers will be guests of the Red Cross board of directors for an "Appreciation Supper" in May.

The local Red Cross chapter is several thousand dollars short in funds this year due to the Community Chest - Red Cross drive's failure to reach its goal last fall.

The board Wednesday heard these summaries of chapter work during the last three months:

The Red Cross disaster service helped seven Marathon families when a rooming house was completely destroyed by fire. The chapter's home service unit spent $1,244.99 during the last three months.

Five registered nurses completed a home nursing course and are now teaching three home nursing classes here.

Seventeen women completed the Gray Lady course with graduation exercises at the Naval Hospital chapel.

Two first aid classes are now in session.

Junior Red Cross made Valentine, Washington's Birthday, St. Patrick's Day and Easter favors to brighten trays served patients of Naval Hospital, Monroe General Hospital and the Old Folks' Home.

Rev. Rogers appointed Dr. Calverly chairman of a nominating committee, with Allan Hampton and Harvey Sellers as members, to suggest new officers at the chapter's annual meeting Thursday, June 2.
