THE DIFFERENCE.
"Connecticut wants a tariff to protect her labor
against foreign competition.-Free Press.
Yes Connecticut wants a Tariff, which will pro-
tect her labor: but she will have to look some-
where else, besides to the whigs, if she expects to
get it. The policy of the whigs, is not to protect
the laborer, but to protect the manufacturer ex-
clusively at the expense of the laboring and pro-
ducing many. The policy of the democrats is
to protect the producer and also the manufacturer,
and not protect the one to the ruin of the other.-
Both wool and woolens must be sufficiently protec-
ted, in order to benefit the producing class. The
Democrats do not believe that wool wants but lit-
tle protection, and that the Vermonters can raise
it for 25 cts. per lb. But they do believe that wool
must be protected and do not believe that our far-
ners can afford to raise it for 25 cents per pound.
Cannot the farmers see the difference between the
democratic policy and that of the whigs?
