we convict or condemn Mr. Salliway on hearsay evidence. But it is further alleged that Mr. Carlos Bee insists and a number of parties interested that what Oscar Dewees says that Dubinski said about Salliway is admissible in evidence notwithstanding Mr. Dubinski denies Mr. Salliway had ever received a cent from him as commissions, but had received only $10 from him through Mr. Oscar Dewees which was contributed to the campaign fund by Dubinski several months ago and paid over by Mr. Salliway to the campaign committee of the Equal Taxation party as soon as that party was organized, which the campaign books show by actual entry long before this alleged criminal charge was trumped up against Mr. Salliway.

Now any impartial lawyer who has ever read Blackstone knows that such stuff is not admissible in the evidence.

It is also stated that Mr. Carlos Bee, urged the grand jury to find a bill and he would give Mr. Salliway a trial in 10 minutes. If he did he should have stood by it. But this is also hearsay evidence and we will not condemn Mr. Carlos Bee on hearsay, neither would we condemn Mr. Salliway on hearsay.

Yes Mr. Robt. L. Barrington Peteet (so-called) I assure you that Mr. Salliway can qualify if elected and he will surely be elected.

No man shall be condemned without a trial.

If every man was guilty that has been indicted in this country we would need no petit juries, judges and lawyers and the constitutional guaranty of public trial with the confronting of witnesses, but we would then have returned to the days of the "Spanish Inquisition" and the "English Star-chamber" courts of the middle ages.

Yes, Mr. Salliway has been denied a speedy trial, because Mr. Bee says two of his witnesses were absent which Mr. Bee could have held by attachment if he had been sincere in his pretense of a speedy public trial.

How is it that he could get these witnesses on the dot when he wanted them to make affidavits for political purposes in an attempt to blacken Mr. Salliway's character and could get them before the grand jury instanter and notwithstanding a whole week intervened after the indictments before the election he gave the court no assurance that he could get them in order to give Mr. Salliway a public trial, and made no attempt to hold them for trial notwithstanding Mr. Salliway had demanded a grand jury investigation and a speedy public trial should a bill be found at one and the same time.

Now who is to blame Mr. Bee or Judge Camp?

Mr. Bee or the Express, his party's organ, said Mr. Bee and Judge Green had granted Salliway's request, then why should they stop half way—better not have started?

Is this fair play?
