Full Text

Havana Dates to April 4th have been received at Philadelphia.

The story about Fanny Elsler's escape in male attire, which is going the rounds of the papers, is all a hoax. She was still at Havana.

The difficulties with the mail agents of the British Government have been much exaggerated. The chief point involved is the opening of the British seal, which the mail agents contend should be opened by the British Consul, while the Governor contends that it should be opened by the Spanish Post office authorities. Thus far the British Consul has officiated, but against the wishes of the Governor General.

The only British subject imprisoned was an officer of low grade, who conducted himself improperly while on a frolic.

No change in markets. American produce and business generally dull.

Much dissatisfaction exists as to the British West India steamers. Three have been in port at the same time.
