The Late Postmaster.—It is well known to the public that our friend William M'Queen late Post Master of this city absquatulated some days ago to Texas, carrying with him twelve negroes, in defraud of his creditors and his securities. One of the securities of Mr. M'Queen, John L. Lewis, Esq., sent two officers after him with a writ; they proceeded from here to Baton Rouge, where they learned he had crossed the river. From thence the fugitive proceeded by the way of the Indian Village, then he took a steamer to Negroville, on the Bayou De Glaise. The officer pursued him across the Archafalava down the De Glaise about fifteen miles, where they gave up the pursuit in consequence of information received from different persons, that M'Queen had taken the other route.—The Ex-Postmasters had most likely reached Texas, by the way of Opelousas, before, or as soon as the officers touched the De Glaise, nearly three days rear of time!—N.
