Lieutenant Zalinski announces a new series of experiments with his dynamite gun, to occur soon. He says: "I will probably fire one or two full-caliber shells, containing 600 pounds each of explosive gelatine; eight sub-caliber shells, each containing 200 pounds of dynamite, and several blank shells of different calibers. These experiments are official, in connection with the acceptance of the Vesuvius."
At the last session of Congress $100,000 was appropriated for the construction of nine pneumatic dynamite guns. It is proposed to build one eight-inch gun and eight fifteen-inch guns. Two of the guns of the latter class will be mounted in San Francisco harbor.
