"A few days since I had the pleasure of examining the Plan and View of New-Orleans and its vicinity, together with the Map of Louisiana, which prove to me that it is a country worthy the attention of the United States. They are suspended in the Senate Chamber, and command a great number of spectators.
"The above works are both original, by an artist of that country, who, I am informed, was geographer and engineer to the Spanish government. Tho President, Secretaries, and many of the Members of both Houses, have sanctioned them, after a minute inspection, and all who have seen them agree, that they are chef d'oeuvres rare to be met with. I understand he is proceeding eastward to procure subscribers--I hope he will receive from our enlightened citizens that encouragement which talents and education assuredly deserve."
