For the Butte Record.

Oroville Lyceum.-We had the pleasure on Tuesday evening, of being present at the Lyceum held at the Court House. The debate was opened by the Rev. Mr. Burton in the affirmative, who was followed by Mr. S. Rosenbaum, in the negative, after which, the question was discussed by several other members of the Lyceum, who conducted the debate with great credit to themselves. We were especially struck with the speech of Mr. A. D. Reis, and as we understand this to have been his maiden speech, he shows great promise of becoming an eloquent speaker. He handled the subject in a masterly manner, and were it not for his embarrassment, so natural to all young speakers, we should pronounce his the best of the evening.
