LATEST FROM CORUNNA
The brig Squirrel, Wing, arrived at this port yesterday afternoon, in 30 days from Corunna.
Left there October 9. Capt. Wing states, that the day before he sailed, great firings and rejoicings took place at Corunna, in consequence of some news said to be received from Portugal. He did not learn the particulars.
At a late hour last evening, we were informed that a letter has been received in this city from Corunna, by the Squirrel, which confirms the account of the battle fought between the English and Portuguese combined army and the French under Massena, which was completely routed. We have not been able to obtain a copy of the letter, but we have learned some of its contents, which are, that Massena began to press forward and the British to fall back, and he gives out, an intent to cut off their retreat by bringing the allied army between two fires, detaching a body of 25,000 of his best troops to attack them in the rear, while he, with the main body, should take them in front. Lord Wellington being apprized of this movement, immediately attacked the main body of the French army under Massena, and completely defeated it.
