Full Text

A THEATER BILL.—Assemblyman Patterson, of San Francisco, has introduced in the California Legislature a bill prohibiting theatrical managers from reserving seats. This is a thoroughly Communistic measure, and therefore we suppose the Assembly will pass it. If it had been entitled "An Act to deter decent people from attending places of amusement" it would have been fitly described, for it is impossible to see what other purpose it can serve. Such a bill would go far to ruin every theater in the State, for respectable persons would, of course, decline to attend amusements when it was necessary to fight for their places, and ladies would at once cease to patronize the theaters.
