Full Text
'Tis funny to watch the average candidates as they go round looking up the voters. In a certain saloon last night a prominent office seeker was sitting at a table and around him were four Germans. They were all drinking beer and eating rye bread and Switzer cheese. The Germans all talked in their own language; while the candidate looked on as though he understood every word they spoke, and had been used to beer and cheese all his life. It was a hard pill to swallow, but "he got there all the same".
