Sixteen times around the earth equals four hundred thousand miles. A trip to the moon and approximately 160,000 miles back is also equal to the above figure.
These two examples graphically illustrate how far Pete Hakli, Courtland street, has traveled in the past thirteen years while driving busses for the Lake County Transportation company. In that period, he has gone more than 400,000 miles.
Pete is one of several bus drivers employed by the local concern who daily commute between Fairport and Painesville to carry passengers. He is the veteran of the group, the other drivers having served considerably shorter periods.
According to Mr. Hakli, a trip to Painesville and back covers approximately nine and one half miles. Dividing this figure into 400,000, we find that he has traveled the round trip about 40,000 times.
During a year, a driver will travel over 30,000 miles, Mr. Hakli reveals. Martin Wainio, another driver for the transportation company, has driven approximately 180,000 miles, and Henry Lipsanen, who has been driving about a year, has covered 30,000. Emil Knuth is a new driver and has not as yet traveled as far as the others.
Although it would seem that driving a bus would become monotonous, Mr. Hakli says that he enjoys the job, so much that he usually goes for a long drive in his pleasure car after working hours.
