Full Text

The present illustrious and judicious King of Prussia very graciously and politically admits all Persons to address Letters to him, and to send them by the Post or any other Way, and always returns written Answers immediately within four and twenty Hours after the Reception, often of his own Hand-Writing, like the celebrated and worthy Roman Emperor Trajan, or by his private Secretary, called, Secretarie des Commandements, in French, but always signed by his Majesty: Which laudable and glorious Example merits Imitation; as these benevolent and polite Attentions denote great Goodness and real Politeness, united with an accurate Assiduity and refined Policy, as they attract real Respect, Admiration, and Attachment. These penetrating Monarchs knew, and were sensible that true Dignity consists in the Union of a noble Benevolence, and of an amiable Urbanity; that no Superiority exempts any Man of whatever Rank, even a Sovereign, from the constant Observation and Execution of those important and indispensable Duties of Society: Duties, which have been religiously observed by the high-est Personages of all Ages who had the Happiness of possessing elevated and delicate Sentiments, with distinguished and civilized Manners.
