A communication from the senate by their clerk.
The senate have passed the bill "to amend the act, entitled an act, to incorporate a company for establishing a turnpike road from the intersection of Duke street, in the town of Alexandria, with the west line of the district of Columbia, to the ford of Little river, where the turnpike road now crosses it."
Mr. Terby from the committee appointed on that subject, made the following report:
The committee appointed by the house of delegates to take into consideration a communication from the governor, relating to the defence of the eastern part of this state, have, according to order, examined the subject to them referred, and have agreed to the following resolution:
Resolved, as the opinion of this committee, That the representatives of this state in congress, be requested, and the senators instructed to use all proper means to induce the federal government to erect and establish all necessary fortifications on the eastern part of this state, and particularly to build a fort on Craney island, in Elizabeth River.
The said resolution being read a second time was agreed to by the house.
