Full Text

I have it from authority on which I can implicitly rely, that Mr. Bancroft, having been advised to resign his office as Secretary of the Navy, and declining so to do has received "notice to quit." and will in a few days be removed.-Washington Letter.

The aristocracy of the Navy are renewing their old game of bullying and threatening. What has the Secretary done now? Made some lazy drones do their duty, we suppose. They have charged him with various offences, as destroying the apprentice system and abolishing the seniority, which proved to be false, and hence the gall and wormwood in their letters as above. They gave him notice to quit six weeks after his appointment, but it was no use. Their "power behind the throne" had ceased, and they had to go to work like honest men.-N. Y. Sun.
