Parade Permit
To The Klan
The City of Decatur has refused
a permit to parade to the Ku Klux
Klan. The Klan wanted the permit
for a march through the city to the
courthouse for a May 28 meeting.
City Manager John Markland de-
ied the permit.
However he said, it was no con-
demnation of the Klan but that the
parade would pose a heavy traffic
burden since Klansmen estimated
several thousand to 20,000 partici-
pants. The DeKalb County Commis-
sioners said they still intend to let
the group use the county courthouse.
Commissioner J. O. (Jim) Bowen
voted against it.
