Full Text

The weight of metal in the Boston frigate is said to be considerably superior to that of the Embuscade, her main deck guns are English eighteen pounders; those of the Embuscade, French twelves.

The Embuscade's crew consisted of 305 persons, including boys; the Boston had 330, but these (according to the British mode of calculation) were at least equal to 660, if not 990 Frenchmen. The heat of the engagement continued full three glasses (one hour and an half.)

The chace, by the last accounts lasted five hours: and nothing but the Boston's superiority in sailing, prevented her capture.
