They write from Lisbon of the 18th of January, that between 30 and 40,000 Spanish troops are approaching towards their frontiers, and 'twas said had actually committed some acts of hostilities, and agreeable to this report, his serene highness the Count de la Lippe would soon return to Portugal, and that the English officers who are in their service would soon be recalled; and that agreeable to treaty, succours would soon be required of the British court.
A right Rev. Bishop preaching lately in the city, observed that the Christian Religion, was, at that time, in a condition not much unlike that of its great master, for between superstition on one hand, and enthusiasm on the other, it was crucified between two thieves.
