SCHOOLS PLANNING ART
EXHIBIT FOR NEXT WEEK

Four Hundred Examples of Art
Work Will Be Shown at Red
House, Oakland and Kitzmiller

PROGRAMS ARE ARRANGED

For the first time rural and graded
elementary school children of this
county will exhibit their art work
during a special art week, designated
May 13 to 17.

These art exhibitions will be held
at Red House, Oakland and Kitzmiller.
Exhibits in this proposed display have
been selected as a result of a broad-
ened art program in the county schools
during the past year. Four hundred ex-
amples of school art, including crayon,
water color, charcoal and craftwork
will be shown.

The art shows are scheduled for the
following centers:

Red House, Monday afternoon and
evening, May 13
Oakland, Tuesday evening, May 14
and Wednesday morning, May 15.
Kitzmiller, Thursday afternoon
May 16.

The program will consist of musical
selections, talks by Mrs. Caroline Wil-
son, supervising teacher; Miss Cath-
erine Baker, art instructor, and Frank-
lin E. Rathbun, county superinten-
dent of schools. There will also be
cartoon drawing by high school stu-
dents and selections by elementary
school students.

The new art program has endeav-
ored to encourage creative ability in
art rather than imitation, it was
pointed out, and the pieces to be shown
are said to reflect this to an amaz-
ing degree. With so many schools rep-
resented it is certain that this exhi-
bition will be both educational and
entertaining, Mrs. Wilson said.

The art week and program have
been arranged through the coopera-
tion of the teachers with Mrs. Wilson
and Miss Baker. A large attendance
is being urged at all centers.

The Oakland Elementary Parent
Teachers Association will hold its
regular meeting Tuesday evening
May 14, at the school, at 7:30 o'clock
so that parents of the children will
have an opportunity to attend. A pro-
gram under the direction of Mrs. Har-
old H. Harned will be presented.
