WASHINGTON, (P) The House Territorial Affairs Subcommittee tabled a bill Monday to supplement the land grant provisions of the Alaska Mental Health Enabling Act.
Rep. Ralph Rivers, who introduced the bill, made the motion on grounds it is no longer necessary. The action in effect kills the bill.
The bill was intended to assure that the one million acres of land Alaska may choose under the Mental Health Act of 1956 would not be restricted to those not under mineral lease.
Harold R. Mochumuth, lands staff officer of the Bureau of Land Management, testified that this provision was taken care of in an amendment to the Alaska Statehood Act passed in August, 1959.
Rivers had introduced the tabled bill prior to the passage of the amendment last August.
