College Station, Raleigh, April 20. — One variety communities are expected to give a boost to ailing King Cotton in North Carolina, J. A. Shanklin, extension cotton specialist of State College, declared today.
Through a community's adoption of a single variety, Shanklin said, cotton can be produced more economically and the price will be higher for even-running lots of better cotton.
Although cotton has shown much improvement in the past ten years, there is still a wide open field for better lint, the State College man said. In 1928 only 20 per cent of the lint produced in North Carolina was 15-16 inch or longer; last year the figure had increased to 82 per cent of the total yield.
