POSTSCRIPT
We have learned from one of our highly respectable merchants who has just arrived from New York by the way of Augusta, (Ga.) that while he was in Columbus, (Ga.) the Express mail arrived, bringing the gratifying intelligence the the Whig ticket had succeeded in New York city by a majority of about 1800 votes.
The gentleman alluded to, was but short time in Columbus, and remarks that the Whigs in that place fully believed the intelligence, and were rejoicing at the result. This news is almost too good to be true, and we hesitate in yielding our entire belief in it. If New York City has gone for the Whigs, the whole State is safe.
