Full Text

The Dallas Literary Society held their regular weekly Meeting on Thursday evening. The attendance was good, every available seat being occupied by an attentive and appreciative audience. Among those present we were pleased to see many who live in our outlying districts, evincing in their presence the interest that is felt in these pleasant and instructive gatherings. The exercises consisted of Prose Readings, Poems, original and selected, Debates, Essays, Music, Vocal and Instrumental, etc. The Original Essay, "Plant Life," by Dr. J. C. Grubbs, was well chosen and well delivered, and was listened to with interest throughout. The Debate, "Does Nature prove the Existence of a God?" M. M. Oglesby affirmative, and J. L. Collins negative, was also well argued. The Vocal Music, led and accompanied by Miss E. A. Witten, was excellent, and everything moved harmoniously along, and augurs well for the winter campaign. A word of praise is due to the President, Mr. D. Holmes, for his judicious management, and also to Mr. J. D. Lee, as Secretary to the Society.
