When New York was called on the first ballot last Friday, ex-Governor Flower, the chairman of the delegation replied: "In view of the platform adopted by this convention, I am instructed as a delegate from the state of New York to say that the delegates have agreed not to participate in the selection of candidates for president, and, therefore, they decline to vote."

North Carolina was called next and the chairman created a laugh by saying: "In view of the platform adopted by this convention, I am requested by the delegates from the state of North Carolina to cast 22 votes for Bryan."
