Extract of a private Letter from Gibraltar, Octob. 21.
"I need not write, as you have surely heard, of the dreadful Overthrows in Europe and Africa by the late Earthquakes: It put a Terror into the Minds of many here, from a Prediction which came from England, That this Place should soon be swallowed up by an Earthquake, but the Effects ceased almost as soon as the Cause. That which was felt here on the 21st of November, did no more Damage than throwing down some Stones and Earth behind the Rock; however, send you Part of a Romish Prediction which appeared here after the Earthquake, and is in some few Hands, having been translated from the Original, viz.
Anno 1755, A great Earthquake.
1756, A War in Italy.
1757, There shall be no Pope.
1758, The Wrath of God shall go through the World.
1759, God shall be known by few.
1760, The Stars shall burn, and the Sun and Moon rain Blood.
1762, Europe, Asia and Africa, shall tremble.
1763, A great Earthquake through all the World.
I could not obtain the rest as yet; and though I put no Faith in these prophetical Legends, I have wrote you the same as a Curiosity, leaving the Events to the Grand Disposer of all Things."
