Cowhiding Scrape.—An individual, one of those conceited pests of society generally, and of the feminine portion of it particularly, who imagine themselves so particularly fascinating that no woman can withstand their attraction, received on Saturday evening last a feeling rebuke as a reward for his impertinence. A young lady named Roberts, who resides on Freeman, near Baymiller street, has been for some time past pestered with the advances of a stranger, who has taken frequent occasions to pass her residence, while she has been standing at the door or window, and bowing to her, at the same time ogling her with eyes cast upward like a duck defying a thunder storm. He cut so ludicrous a figure that latterly the lady has, upon his appearance, been betrayed into a smile, which, it seems, rather encouraged the would-be beau, for meeting the fair one on Fifth street last Friday afternoon, he accosted and invited her to walk with him. The lady, of course, indignantly repelled him, and thinking that the affair had gone far enough, she informed her brother of the annoyance she had been subjected to, when he, meeting the offender in the person of a Mr. Dalton, on Kemble street, last Saturday night gave him such a specimen of cowhiding as will most effectually cure him (for some time at least) of his propensity for lady-killing.—Cin.
