In checking the 1941 records of Edwin J. Haynes, Licking county clerk of courts, it is revealed that an enormous amount of work has been accomplished in that office.
During the year 15,802 automobiles were transferred and 4,658 memorandum certificates of title issued. 4,996 mortgages on automobiles were noted and 4,737 were released, while 3,259 applications for certificates of title were issued.
According to Clerk Haynes there is always approximately 500 current cases on the court docket awaiting trial which necessitates a considerable filing and recording of papers.
During 1941 there were 643 new civil cases, 139 criminal cases and 322 divorce actions. Besides the other many duties of the office approximately $2000 per month is distributed in alimony payments.
All of the naturalization work is also handled in the clerk's office which is unusually heavy at this time due to the present emergency.
Further investigation of the records reveal that all the foregoing work of this branch of the county government was handled showing a profit for the year of $10,000.
