FROM THE NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER.

St. Marys, Geo. Oct. 4.

"I am obliged to you for the friendly
manner in which you vouched for the veracity of my communication to you of the
5th Aug. Be assured I then advanced
nothing but what can be established.
The events which have since followed
have fully justified what I then wrote
you. Gen. McGregor, and almost every
honorable man, has left Amelia island in
disgust.

"A commodore Aury, from Galveston,
commands there at present; and
it is now openly declared, that Amelia
Island is all the territory they want. In
the harbor of that place perhaps there are
now six or eight prize vessels: amongst
the others, a French brig. The people
of France have not only reason now to
be alarmed, but even on this side of the river
we may apprehend danger. One half of
Aury's force, the whole of which perhaps
is 550 men, is composed of brigands from
St. Domingo; even a number of the lieutenants of the different vessels are blacks.
These are the people who are to revolutionize (it is supposed abroad) the Floridas. It will be a happy thing if this pernicious example be lost on the people of
their complexion in our neighborhood,
and insurrections might be confined to
our unfortunate neighbors on the other
side of the river St. Marys."
