Refused To Pay Rent, Sent To The Workhouse

Because he refused to pay rent which he claimed was "too much" for an apartment for his wife and five children, Everett Turley will live rent-free for a period of one year.

Juvenile Judge Frank W. Nicholas sentenced Turley to the Workhouse after he was found guilty of neglecting his family.

Turley admitted that he refused to pay $15-a-week rent for an apartment "because the rent was too much."

With the five children Mrs. Turley moved into a hotel where the rent was $5 a day. Turley also neglected to pay the hotel rent. He was sentenced and committed to the Workhouse.
